Life Hack: Take Back Your Lunch Money

7/21/2017

Ever have one of those days where you feel like the last thing you want to do is, well, anything? Your motivation and energy for your job, your family, school, your friends or maybe even showering and brushing your teeth has vanished.

Poof! Gone. See ya later, mojo! So long, ambition! Sayonara, energy! Adios mi amigo!

Well, don't freak out just yet. Believe it or not, that's part of being a human person. Life is hard. Life is crazy, overwhelming, exhausting and quite frankly, a huge pain in the ass at times. Life can be a big ol' bully that knocks you down in the school yard and laughs at you.

Nobody likes a bully though, right?

Right.

In case you need a little help fighting back when life steals your magic and dares you to find it again, I've created a list of 5 ways to dust off your britches, stare life in the face, and take back your lunch money.
Picture
1) It's Okay to "Steal" a Little Inspiration

We're all here on this spinning ball of dirt to learn from, and help one another. That's what I believe, anyway. So why reinvent the wheel? Try gleaning some get-up-and-go from another source or person. Read an inspirational article, call that friend who's always positive and makes you laugh, listen to a great song or playlist that gets your blood pumping, watch a TV program that's a positive influence. ("The Ellen Degeneres Show" is my go to) If you can't muster up your
own inspirational vibes, that's okay. Steal 'em from someone else.

2) "Move"

I know, I know. You're tired, your head hurts, you're too busy, you sprained your pinky finger yada, yada, yada. There's always a list of excuses why we can't take the time to move our butts and work up a sweat. But ya know what? None of them are good enough. You can always take time to take care of yourself. Try trading that afternoon run to Starbucks for a brisk walk in the park, take a trip to your gym after work instead of your local Krispy Kreme, do some squats and
push-ups in between doing laundry and dishes. There's a million ways to amp up those feel good friends called endorphins, no matter where you are or how hectic your schedule is. These fun friends are like tiny sparks firing away in your body and will help you clear your head and give you that long lost energy boost you've been in search of.

Picture
3) Be a Giver

My parents always told me when I was feeling sorry for myself, to give to someone else. So, being the good little girl that I am, I listened. My teeny, tiny, way of giving back is all about the drive thru window at Chic-fil-a. I won't let myself even think about ordering waffle fries unless I'm prepared to pay for the person in the car behind me. This small, random act, always lifts my spirits and makes me smile no matter how craptacular I'm feeling. There's something about
looking in my rear view mirror and seeing the confused and happy look on a strangers face, that just gives me all the feels. I like to make up stories about this mystery person and pretend that they've just had the worst day ever, until I bought them a chicken sandwich and diet lemonade. That's my thing and it works Every. Single. Time. Find something that works for you. Go ahead, do something kind for someone. You'll be so surprised how much giving of yourself, your time, your energy or money, will lift your spirits and make you smile.

4) Count Your Blessings.

Honestly. There's always someone who has it worse than you. Always. Start counting all the reasons why things are going so unbelievably right in your life. Whether it's your health, your family, your friends, your job or the fact that you look really good in that new pair of jeans you just bought. Think of all the ways you're one lucky ducky and you'll be feeling those happy vibes in no time.

Picture
5) Get Outside the Box (AKA your home or office)

Remember the 8th element on the periodic table? In case you forgot, it's "O", also known as oxygen. Get a fresh whiff of it and soak up some sunbeams, people! We have this beautiful place called "outside" that's just waiting for us ever so patiently. Nature is my happy place. No matter how I'm feeling about my job, my husband or the size of my thighs, I can always count on the outdoors to get me feeling all giddy and awestruck. Try it for yourself! Sit on a park bench,
lean against a shade tree or just stand outside your front door with your face in the sun for a quick 5. Breathing in that sweet oxygen will boost your morale remind you that maybe your life isn't so bad after all.

That's it! It's really that easy to turn all that gloom and doom into inspiration and happiness! Worst case scenario, if you walk through all 5 things listed above and you're still feeling down, meet me at Chic-fil-a and I'll buy you a chicken sandwich and diet lemonade.

Sharing my lunch money with nonbullies,
-B ! 👊🏻

Motivation Monday: 5 Ways to Get Off Your Donkey and Get Motivated

7/3/2017

Do you really want to motivate yourself? Really? Because what I’m going to say here, may not go over well with some. So, if you’re easily offended you are hereby ordered to cease and desist the reading of this post.

Otherwise, keep reading.

Are you ready?

Are you sure?

Can you take it?

Okay, I’m going to tell you like I tell myself — and yes, I talk to myself all the time — stop acting like a whiny, little baby! Seriously. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. There is always someone who has it a lot worse than you do. So get over it. Take responsibility, put on your big kid undies, and get something done!
Picture
So you’re going through a divorce or a breakup? So what. People do it all the time. Cry it out then suck it up and move on. You’re broke? So are lots of other people. Complaining about it doesn’t put more money in your pocket. Do something different than you’re doing now. You’re overweight? So put down the Twinkie, start eating healthier and get some exercise.

I know, I know, it sounds mean and harsh, but it’s the truth. And sometimes, we just need to hear the cold, hard truth to snap us into reality. How do I know? Because it has always worked for me. Let me tell ya, my life ain't always looked pretty! I’ve been divorced, gone through break-ups, been broke, overweight, and lots of other not-so-fun stuff. I’ve had my share of wallowing in self-pity. I’ve drank myself into a stupor. I’ve cried myself to sleep. I’ve been completely and utterly depressed. But you know what?

None of that helps.

Now, don’t get me wrong, everyone needs time to heal and get healthy — physically, mentally and spiritually — but just because you eat one Twinkie, doesn’t mean you have to eat the whole box.  And just because you’re feeling down, doesn’t mean you have to lock yourself in a dark room and shut out the rest of the world.

Like the words of a song from one of my favorite bands, "The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell…” In other words, the journey is not easy but it’s worth it.

NOW, are you ready to get off your donkey and get motivated?

Ready, set, GO!
Picture
1. Go for a walk or run.

Seriously, get up right now — well, not right now. Wait until after you finish reading this. But then, get up and go for a walk or run. Do it outside; not in a gym or on a treadmill. Outside. There’s something so freeing about a simple outdoor walk or run. It gets your blood pumping, it gets fresh air into your lungs, and it helps clear your head of all the things that are weighing you down. True story.

Quick Trick: Download a couple new, upbeat, happy songs to your iPod, and listen to them while you walk. You may be surprised at the pep in your step. Music is therapy for the soul.

2. Express love and gratitude.

Your mom, dad, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, brother, sister, child, friend, co-worker — whomever. Pick out a person that you’re thankful for, and tell them how much you love them and how grateful you are to have them in your life. Being grateful makes you happy, and being happy helps.…um, hello….motivate you. Focussing on the positive will help diminish the negative feelings.

Quick Trick: The next time you’re out shopping, pick up a pack of note cards. Then, take a few minutes out of every day to write a note to someone special in your life and send it to them. Do this every day until you run out of cards. You’ll be amazed at the outcome!

3. Read or watch something that inspires you.

Motivation is directly linked to inspiration, so if you want to be motivated, get yourself inspired!

Quick Trick: Try writing about something you love. Doesn’t have to be a book. Just a paragraph or maybe a poem about something that makes you feel happy and inspired.

4. Validate yourself.

You don’t need anyone else to validate you. Your dreams, your feelings, your beliefs, your hopes — they’re yours and you have them for a reason. I know it’s tough when the people closest to you don’t offer the support you feel you need, but the important part is that you believe in yourself and your abilities. You’re on this earth for a reason. You have a purpose. You’re awesome. And besides, for every person who doesn’t believe in or support you, there are 10 more out there who will. Trust me.

Quick Trick: Take 5 minutes and think of all the positive things you’ve accomplished in your life. Family, career, school, maybe someone you’ve helped or something you’ve created — anything positive that you’ve achieved. Now, be proud of yourself and realize how capable you are. You can accomplish anything you want. You just need to get your mojo flowing again!

5. Make a list. Or two, or three…..

This is really important. Make a list of goals you want to accomplish and dreams you want to fulfill. Then, under each one, write out the individual steps needed to make them happen. Suddenly the big things become much more doable and not so overwhelming. By doing this, you’ve just written directions on how to turn your dreams into a reality!

Quick Trick: Not sure how to write the individual steps to success? Google, baby! Seriously. Find someone, somewhere who is doing what you want to do and read about how they did it. The steps you need to take will begin to come into focus!

Now, get off your donkey and GO!

Your Ally in Amelioration,

Welcome to My Imperfectly Timed Life

As I drop my two children off for the last day of school, I feel a lump in my throat. I’m reminded of just how fast time goes by. It seems like only yesterday I was holding a chubby, little baby boy in one arm, and his spunky two year old sister in the other. Now, smiling and waving at me as they walk into their last day of 2nd and 4th grade, is a tall, handsome, almost 8 year-old boy, and his beautiful, still spunky, 10 year old sister. I blinked, and 7 1/2 years are in my rear-view mirror...

"The bad news is, time flies. The good news is, you’re the pilot."

My name is Christie, and I’m training to be a better pilot.

You see, I’ve had a nasty little habit in my life; the habit of “waiting for the perfect time.” The problem with waiting for the perfect time is that, for most things, there is no perfect time.

Time does not wait on perfection.

It clicks by, minute by minute, year by year, laughing at all your plans as it carelessly grabs them from the future and tosses them into the past. It stares at you through the eyes of your half- grown children and asks, “where have you been?” It rushes ahead, leaving in its path, only fragments of things you should’ve said, lives you would’ve touched, and dreams that could’ve been.

Time is a real hag.

Picture

At some point in my life, I started realizing that I didn’t need to wait on the perfect time; I needed to make the perfect time. I needed to turn off the auto-pilot, grab the yoke, and be the captain of my own future.

I make it sound so easy, don’t I? It’s not. I still struggle with time on a daily basis. I did say I was still in training though, right? My point is simply this: don’t wait. The perfect time is whenever you decide it is.

And on that note, I’d like to share with all of you a few recent developments in my life:
  • After 6 years of being a divorced, single mom, I will soon be married to a man whom I love with all my heart and who drives me absolutely batty at the same time.
  • In preparation for that marriage, I just moved from my address of 3 years and have begun the adventure of “blending families.”
  • After running my own freelance business for the past few years, I, together with my sister, recently launched a creative branding and marketing agency called “Bizzi.”

I have a lot on my plate, but I’m super excited to see what the future holds! (Please feel free to cheer me on.)
Picture

Do I know all of these things are going to work out? No. But I would rather look back at all the things I did, instead of all the things I didn’t. I’d rather pilot my own time and risk getting off course, than cruise through life on auto-pilot. I’d rather try and fail, than not try at all.

I’m making the perfect time.

Hopelessly optimistic,
-C

The Journey Begins

Just another blog with a bunch of words smashed together to say some stuff about some stuff about some stuff. That's what you're thinking, right?

Maybe.

We, however, choose to think it's the greatest place your internet-surfing skills will ever lead you to. (
Just so you know, we are optimistic to the point of unrealistic. Negative vibage just isn’t our thing.)

Bizzi was born on a phone call between sisters sharing a good glass of wine and talking about life.

Ya know, where all great ideas are born.

This is not a get-rich quick scheme, a $29.99 self-help pitch, or one-size-fits-all career blog trying to take over the world. (
Although we're big fans of 'Pinky and the Brain' and their desire to do so.) We are just a couple of fairly smart writers, dreamers, friends, entrepreneurs, photographers, computer geek extraordinaires and self-proclaimed philosophers.

We love self- proclamations. They're awesome.

We just want to give you a glimpse into the world of two very different, yet very similar people who have come together to make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality. Along with that, we hope to inspire you, and perhaps, THE WHOLE WORLD!

And the crowd says, "OooOooh!"

Picture
We believe that pursuing your dreams and following your passion is one of the greatest things anyone can do. We feel that quiet meditation and screaming as loud as you can into a pillow are equally therapeutic in getting you through the highs and the lows of cultivating your own profession. We’re convinced that selfishness is totally overrated.

Other things in our repertoire of beliefs are: always be a control freak in regards to your own time, thoughts and actions, never underestimate the power of an inspired idea, always write down your goals and have a plan of action to achieve them, and self-examination is scary...but absolutely necessary.

Lastly, never allow negativity to steal the light in your eyes and blur your entrepreneurial vision.

You don’t have to stay, but you’re already here, so why not look around and tell us if you like what you see. If you don’t, you can tell us that, too. Note to self: delete all comments, emails, texts and voice-mails from people who do not like our site. Rejection sucks. We think the longer you stick around, the more likely you are to find something of interest and completely fantastical. We make up our own words, too. It’s the best.

 Peace out, homies.
